IndieCan Entertainment Inc. is excited to announce that the Canadian feature documentary, 'SpiderMable - a real life superhero story', will be released on digital and on demand on April 27th, 2021. Directed by award-winning producer, cinematographer, writer and director Kelly Wolfert, a native of Edmonton, this film follows the real-life journey of a young selfless cancer patient and her desire to help others, even while battling for her own life.
After meeting Neil and Lisa Tooke’s daughter, Mable, while volunteering for The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, Kelly was asked to help create Mable's wish day - to fight crime with her hero, Spider-Man. Supported by fellow Edmontonians, Mable met with Mayor Don Iveson, did superhero training at West Edmonton Mall and rescued Oilers' captain Andrew Ference from his kidnapper. Her touching story and unique wish day became a global phenomenon, generating over 519 million impressions on social media in a span of just 3 days. But the superhero story arc did not end at just one day for this young girl. Inspired to harness her newly found influence and voice and give back to the community that had helped her survive, she continued her journey, transforming from a celebrity superhero into an inspiring young fundraising philanthropist. This documentary captures Mable during her initial wish day and follows her through the 4 years following, introducing the viewer to many caregivers, benefactors, and motivators on her way, and showcasing this amazing young girl’s inspiring attitude and journey that keeps on going.
'SpiderMable' opened the NorthwestFest International Documentary Festival in 2020, winning the Best Canadian Film title and the “Best of the Fest” Audience Award. It has also recently been awarded with the Edmonton Film Prize. The movie will now be available in Canada on iTunes, Bell, Shaw, Telus and Vimeo.
