Award-Winning Doc 'Entangled' Set To Launch Season 2 On The Impact Series.
Updated: Jun 8
TORONTO, June 8, 2021 — The Sherry Media Group Inc. announced today that it will launch Season 2 of THE IMPACT SERIES in select Canadian cities on June 18, 2021, with the North American Theatrical Premiere of the award-winning documentary feature ENTANGLED.
Directed by Pulitzer Prize-winning Boston Globe reporter David Abel, ENTANGLED explores how climate change has accelerated a collision between one of the world’s most endangered species, the North Atlantic right whale; North America’s most valuable fishery, the lobster industry; and federal agencies in the United States and Canada mandated to protect both.
“We’re deeply honored to have our film selected to open the new season of The Impact Series,” said David Abel. “This series has created a platform to spark vital conversations about difficult issues, and we hope our film will inspire such discussions.”
“We are very pleased to present this thought-provoking documentary to Canadian audiences as the opening film of our second season with the North American Theatrical Premiere of ENTANGLED,” said Jim Sherry, Founder of The Impact Series. “David’s inspiring and accomplished film captures the urgency for immediate action if we are to protect one of the world’s most endangered species. We’re thrilled with the addition of the remarkable LIFT LIKE A GIRL and are looking forward to bringing it to North American audiences.”
The first season of The Impact Series was a runaway success after showcasing in Canadian theatres and across digital and broadcast platforms. The company continues to build on strategic partnerships with prominent organizations, most recently with Human Rights Watch and Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
The critically acclaimed Impact Series has inspired audiences in 69 countries. The organization recently launched an initiative called “TAKE ISSUE WITH,” which seeks to motivate individuals to take action to help solve larger social problems. The Impact Series has partnered with Canada Without Poverty for the inaugural “Take Issue With” campaign, Canada’s food insecurity crisis.
Chronicling the efforts to protect the North Atlantic right whales from extinction, ENTANGLED shows the impacts of those efforts on the lobster industry, and how the National Marine Fisheries Service as well as Fisheries and Oceans Canada has struggled to balance those vying interests. Winner of a 2020 Jackson Wild Award, the film also won Best Feature Film at the International Wildlife Film Festival and the Water Docs Film Festival; Best Conservation Film at the Mystic Film Festival and the International Ocean Film Festival; Best Wildlife Film at the Livable Planet Film Festival; and the John de Graaf Environmental Filmmaking Award at the Wild & Scenic Film Festival.
ENTANGLED will premiere in select Canadian markets on June 18, expanding nationally on July 2.
