Film Synopsis

Winner of the first Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature (2002), Shrek sparked a motion picture phenomenon and captured the world's imagination with…the Greatest Fairy Tale Never Told! Shrek (Mike Myers) goes on a 3D quest to rescue the feisty Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) with the help of his loveable Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and win back the deed to his swamp from scheming Lord Farquaad.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment brings SHREK to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray as a three-disc package with a Digital Copy code. SHREK comes with a dazzling and vibrant 2160p transfer in 1.85:1.  The HDR10 presentation comes with a full array of colors, like the glossier green of Shrek, the more arctic shade of the blue sky and the Dragon’s shiny skin.  The shadows have a dark black.  Overall, this is still a good presentation despite the aged look of the animation.

Audio

Shrek's UHD disc includes a DTS:X Master Audio soundtrack. It’s a solid lossless track, with good depth, pop music and ambient noises.   Dialogue is clear and center positioned, rounding a first-class track into top form.

Overall Reaction

The movie is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with this release. When you compare it to the higher-end CGI animation today, it's a little dated. Universal does offer a fine video and good audio upgrade from the Blu-ray. It also has a wealth of great bonus material on the discs, much of which appears on the 4K disc.
