The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse is a beautifully animated film bringing the best selling picture book to life, led by a great voice cast.

The animated film is a visual stunner from start to finish, featuring easily some of the best hand drawn animation in recent memory. It feels like the images from the picture book have been given life, making each frame look like a gorgeous painting. At the same time, the animators work wonders and make it feel three dimensional at times and take viewers on a gorgeous adventure.

Being a program for children, the story is simple but has a wonderful exploration of friendship, love, courage and acceptance. It is a heartwarming tale that will enchant younger viewers, while having a depth that adult viewers will appreciate while watching it with their young ones. And with a nice short run time, there is never a moment of filler in the story, keeping the film moving at a nice pace to its conclusion.

Though, it is the voice cast that brings this animated picture to life. Tom Hollander steals the show as the Mole, creating one of the most adorable animated characters of the year. He captures the kindness of the Mole with his soft voice, while endearing him to both the audience and the young boy who meets him on his journey. Idris Elba is intimidating as the Fox, but finds a kind side to his character as our young protagonist learns the Fox’s true nature. Gabriel Byrne brings a guiding knowledge to the film as the Horse, and Jude Coward Hall is great as our protagonist.

Utterly charming from start to finish, with animation that helps deliver a truly enchanting film, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse is a delightful animated film for all to enjoy.
