Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour invites you to shake it off, feel 22 and belt your heart out to Swift’s greatest hits from her entire career in a film that transcends the cinematic experience, capturing the infectious, joyous energy of a cultural phenomenon for all to enjoy!

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has been the concert event of the year (and quite possibly the decade), selling out instantly and creating a pop culture sensation like few other concerts ever have before. And now it has become the movie event of the fall, bringing the record breaking concert to the big screen for all Swifties to experience for the first time, or again for those who were lucky enough to stage tickets to it live. I am by no standards a Swiftie, only knowing her early albums “Fearless” and “Speak Now” well, but after the insane hype around this concert I was intrigued to check it out through the film and see what all the buzz was about. And instantly, you are aware of Swift’s caliber of an entertaining performer who makes her concert feel both like the biggest experience of your life as well as a personal experience with her as an artist, that combined with outstanding production design, results in a magnificent film going experience.

Swift’s concert tour spans the eras of her music as she performs hit songs off of all her albums including hits from her earlier albums like “Fearless” and “Speak Now”, up to and including her more recent albums like “folklore” and “Midnights” which she has not performed on tour before. The film captures the majority of the concert, only cutting a handful of songs to keep a runtime of under three hours for a theatrical release (though you can bet there will be an extended version coming for home purchase), with the concert being split up into individual eras as she revisits each album she has created. Whether you are a die hard Swiftie who knows the lyrics to every single one of her songs, or are the more casual listener like myself who only knows her top hits, the concert film will have multiple songs that you will know and can sing along to.

From a film making perspective, director Sam Wrench does a fantastic job of capturing the energy of the live concert. The cinematography creates both an intimate experience as you feel like you have a front row, exclusive view of Swift while simultaneously being on stage with her. At the same time, you get sweeping shots of the entirety of SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, capturing the excitement of the crowd, the massive stage, and birds eyes view shots that showcase the ever changing stage visuals, providing an unique vantage point that allows you to see every detail of this extravagant concert that you could not get in the stadium. You see every costume, every piece of set design on stage, every different microphone, while feeling like you are in the middle of her dance crew. It’s an experience that can only be captured on screen, reminding audiences of the power of concert films that hopefully will help reignite demand for them, as they are a great way to experience concerts that do not come to your city or at an affordable price point.

The film captures the excitement that audiences no doubt had while experiencing the Eras Tour live in person. Fans will be singing along, dancing in the isles, recreating the fun experience that is attending a live concert, right from the comfort of your local movie theatre. The only note keeping my review from being a perfect score, is that the actual concert is the perfect experience, because even with the better vantage point the film provides, the real Eras Tour is the one of a kind experience. Delivering a spectacle from start to finish, Taylor Swift delivers the concert movie event of the year with Taylor Swift: The Eras Tours, certain to wow both die hard fans and more casual listeners with this immersive film that transports you into the centre of the excitement and will leave you singing and dancing in your seat.
