'EMILY' BY FRANCES O’CONNOR STARRING EMMA MACKEY HITS CANADIAN THEATRES FEB 24TH

Montreal, February 14, 2023 - Sphere Films is thrilled to announce that EMILY, the directorial debut by actress Frances O’Connor will be theatrically released Friday February 24 across Canada after its World Premiere at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival last September. EMILY tells the story of Wuthering Heights author Emily Brontë, played by Emma Mackey (Sex Education, Barbie).
EMILY imagines Emily Brontë’s own Gothic story that inspired her seminal novel, Wuthering Heights. Haunted by the death of her mother, Emily (Emma Mackey) struggles within the confines of her family life and yearns for artistic and personal freedom, and so begins a journey to channel her creative potential into one of the greatest novels of all time.
Frances O’Connor, a Golden Globe-winning actress, is well acquainted with period genre films, having played in Mansfield Park (1999) and Madame Bovary (2000). Now, as a first-time director, she sought to present Emily Brontë’s story through a new lens by melding biographical details with literature from Wuthering Heights, the sole novel from the writer. Emma Mackey is the lead, accompanied by Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk), Alexandra Dowling (Game of Thrones), Amelia Gething (The Amelia Gething Complex) and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (The Haunting of Bly Manor).
Distributed in Canada by Sphere Films, EMILY will be released in Canadian theatres Friday February 24, 2023.
