Fifth Ground Entertainment and TVOkids' original series
SECRETS OF THE FOREST to premiere on Earth Day
Toronto, March 21, 2024 – Today, in honour of International Day of Forests, Fifth Ground Entertainment is excited to announce that their new TVOkids original live-action series, Secrets of the Forest, will premiere on Earth Day, Monday, April 22nd. The twenty-six episode series will air on Mondays at 5:50pm on TVOkids in Ontario and will be available online across Canada on TVOkids.com, YouTube and smart TV services like Roku and Apple TV. Produced by Raj Panikkar and Chris Szarka of Fifth Ground Entertainment, with support from Shaw Rocket Fund and the Canada Media Fund, Secrets of the Forest marks their third commission from TVOkids. The show is co-created with executive producer / director Melissa Peters.
Secrets of the Forest follows 10 year old host Taviss Edwards as she travels coast to coast, visiting National Parks in Nova Scotia, British Columbia and Northern Ontario. Taviss is joined by scientists, ecologists, and naturalists to get to the bottom of the forest’s many mysteries. Each episode is filtered through Taviss’s spunky perspective, as she uncovers everything from tiny lichen, slugs, and mycorrhizal mushrooms to the practice of prescribed fires, the value of the vast Boreal forest, and Indigenous plant medicine and foraging.
Featuring stunning nature visuals and insights from scientists at Parks Canada, University of Toronto, Western University, Trent University, Ontario Parks, The Toronto Zoo, BCParks and more, the aim of the series is to spark a sense of wonder in its school age audience, encouraging both a greater curiosity and deeper understanding of these fascinating, beautiful and precious ecosystems.
