Barry Avrich's documentary 'Without Precedent: The Supreme Life of Rosalie Abella' will air on CBC and CBC Gem on Sunday, February 4th at 8pm. The Honourable Rosalie Abella - the first Jewish woman and refugee to sit on the Canadian Supreme Court - was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in December 2023.
The documentary had its world premiere at the 2023 Hot Docs Festival in the Special Presentations program and as part of their Big Ideas series. In addition to playing multiple festivals across the world and a theatrical run last year, it also won a top award at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, and held exclusive screenings at Harvard Law School, Fordham Law and University of Toronto Faculty of Law. It is written and directed by Barry Avrich (The Talented Mr. Rosenberg, Made You Look: A True Story about Fake Art), and features interviews with Margaret Atwood, The Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, The Right Honourable Paul Martin, The Right Honourable Joe Clark, Adam Gopnik, Charles Bronfman and Irving Abella, among others.
